व्याख्या :
भिलाई इस्पात कारखाना सोवियत संघ की सहायता से वर्ष 1957 में बनाया गया तथा इसमें उत्पादन 4 फरवरी, 1959 को प्रारंभ हुआ। इसके लिए सोवियत संघ और भारत सरकार के बीच 2 फरवरी, 1955 को नई दिल्ली में भिलाई इस्पात कारखाना बनाने के समझौते पर हस्ताक्षर किए गये थे। जिसके अंतर्गत आरंभिक 10 लाख टन इस्पात पिण्ड क्षमता का एकीकृत लौह तथा इस्पात कारखाना भिलाई में स्थापित करने का निर्णय किया गया था।
