लीवर के कार्य -
लीवर हमारे शरीर में कई महत्वपूर्ण काम करता है जैसे की भोजन पचाना इसका कार्य पित्त का उत्पादन करना भी होता है। पित एक ऐसा तरल पदार्थ होता है जो हमारी पित्ताशय की थैली में वसा और विटामिन के अवशोषण के लिए अति आवश्क है, जो खून को छानने में मदद करता है। जब भी हम किसी तरह का नुकसानदायक पदार्थ लेते हैं, तब लीवर निष्क्रिय कर देता है और प्रोटीन पैदा करता है जो हमें संक्रमण होने से बचाता है। लीवर के कार्य कुछ इस प्रकार से हैं जैसे कि :-

एंजाइम सक्रियण
पित्त उत्पादन और मलत्याग
रक्त डिटॉक्सिफिकैशन ( detoxification ) और शुद्धिकरण
भण्डारण ग्लाइकोजेन
चयापचय वसा, प्रोटीन और कार्बोहाइड्रेट
कोलेस्ट्राल हार्मोन के मलत्याग
