भारत में पहला डाकघर 1764 में बॉम्बे में ब्रिटिश ईस्ट इंडिया कंपनी द्वारा स्थापित किया गया था। डाक टिकटों का पहली बार 1852 में स्किन्डे जिले (जिसे स्किन्डे डेक भी कहा जाता है) में भारत में उपयोग किया जाता था। 1 अक्टूबर 1854 को, पहला अखिल भारतीय डाक टिकट जारी किया गया था।
