जैव विकास की परिभाषा

जैव विकास- भूवैज्ञानिक काल के दौरान सरल प्रकार के पूर्वजों से ‘‘परिवर्तन’’ के फलस्वरूप जटिल जीवों का बनना विकास कहलाता है।

जैव विकास के सिद्धांत -
आज के विभिन्न जीव उसी रूप में नहीं बने जिस रूप में आज पाए जाते हैं, बल्कि वे एक सामान्य पूर्वज रूप से, जो कहीं अधिक सरल प्रकार का रहा होगा, धीरे- धीरे विकसित हुए -जीवों के लक्षण विगत काल में बदलते रहे हैं; वे आज भी बदल रहे हैं, और भविष्य में भी वे बदलते रहेंगे। ऐसा इसलिए हो रहा है क्योंकि जीव जिस वातावरण में रह रहे हैं वह भी बदलता रहता है, और इस परिवर्तनशील वातावरण में जीवों को जीवित बने रहने के लिए अनुकूलन की आवश्यकता होती है। -विगत काल के अनेक जीव आज विलुप्त हो चुके हैं। आज जो विभिन्न प्रजातियां मिलती हैं, उनका उद्भव एक क्रमिक और उत्यधिक धीमी प्रक्रिया द्वारा हुआ है। इस प्रक्रिया में सैकड़ों वर्षों से लेकर हजारों वर्ष तक लगे होंगे।
