Service/Cadre and Eligibility-
Central Secretariat Stenographers Service(CSSS): Any regularly appointed Stenographer Grade “D” in the service will be eligible to appear for the examination, provided they have completed at least six years of approved service as a Stenographer Grade “D”.
Indian Foreign Service Branch(B) Stenographers Service: Must have completed at least six years of approved service and completed and successfully passed the required training programs.
Armed Forces Headquarters Stenographers Service: Candidates must have at least three years of approved and continuous service in Service Grade ‘D’. And they must also have at least two years of approved and continuous service in the competitive examination grade.
Railway Board Secretariat Stenographers Service: Any regularly appointed Stenographer Grade “D” in the service will be eligible to appear in the examination, provided they have completed at least six years of approved service as a Stenographer Grade “D”.
Election Commission of India Stenographers Service: A minimum of three years of approved and continuous service in Service Grade ‘D’ is required. And the candidate must have rendered at least 2 years of approved and continuous service in the grade.
Central Vigilance Commission: Five years of regular service in the post of Stenographer Grade ‘D’ after appointment in the Commission, as per the crucial/cut-off date.

Selection Process Details-
In the Selection Process for SSC Stenographer New Vacancy 2026 will be completed on the following phases:
1. CBT-
In this objective test covers (ssc stenographer syllabus) General Awareness (100 questions, 100 marks) and English Comprehension (100 questions, 100 marks) over 2 hours (2 hours 40 minutes for eligible scribes). Negative marking of 0.25 per wrong answer applies.
2. Skill Test-
Qualifiers take 10-minute dictation at 100 wpm, transcribed on computer: 40 minutes (English) or 55 minutes (Hindi), extended for scribes. No exemptions, must match opted language from application.
3. Service Record Evaluation-
Top performers undergo assessment of service records (up to 100 marks) for suitability, conduct, and cadre verification. Final select list per cadre vacancies follows merit order with reservations.
